Road Rules: Controlling Anger
Scripture is profound. It describes the eternal, omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient God who sent his Son as a substitutionary atonement for our sin, imputes our sin on him, and imputes his righteousness on us. And Scripture is profoundly practical. When you see a hot-tempered person, for goodness sakes, keep your distance from them whatever you do.
Road Rules: Dealing with Anger (Part 2)
Anger produces strife, but it doesn’t have to. Instead of pressing anger, surrender it to God. Place your emotions under the control of the Holy Spirit that lives within every believer. He is more than capable of turning your swirling emotions into Spirit-controlled peace.
Road Rules: Dealing with Anger
So, when you feel it coming on…when the anger starts working in your mind, causing your blood pressure to rise and making you want to do something or say something, you will most certainly regret…pray for God to take control of your heart. It takes a person of discipline and the power of God to control the temper.
Road Rules: Refuge
But when our strong confidence is in God, our children also see that and trust in him. God will be a spiritual shelter and protection for them, just as he has been for us.
Road Rules: Zealous not Jealous
Here’s the point of today’s proverb: Don’t be jealous; be zealous! Why envy the person who finds ultimate enjoyment in temporal stuff? Why envy the person whose eternal future will be “cut off”?
Road Rules: The Hope of Joy
People can place their hope in a lot of things. But when hopes are attached to the wrong things, our expectations perish. Not so with God-given hope of joy. Based on the finished work of Christ, it will carry us into eternity. When the hope of Jesus is in us, our joy is complete! (John 15:11 NIV)
Road Rules: Wisdom
Wisdom does not guarantee a problem-free life or make us immune to the fallout of bad decisions. But wisdom will lead us to a life God blesses. And God will bring peace to our paths—a peace that surpasses human understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Road Rules: Living in Freedom
When we trust in Jesus, the old is gone; the new has come. We are forgiven of our past and adopted into the eternal King’s family. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live a life of obedience. Our position in Christ gives us significance, security, and acceptance. We do not have to follow the instincts of our old lives.
Road Rules: Verbal Sword Thrusts
We must teach our children the power of words from their mouths or through their thumbs with Tic Tok, Instagram, texts, or Twitter. And, of course, an important part of teaching is show and tell. We must model what we teach!
Road Rules: A Timely Word
Amazingly, the right words at the right time have the power to change our attitudes instantly. It moves our hearts from gloomy to joyful, our minds from confusion to clarity, and even puts a smile on our faces.
Road Rules: Telling the Truth
Telling the truth comes from the heart through the lips of a person who desires to honor God. Truth-telling is something we can show and tell our children every day. Remind your kids that God loves honesty—it’s like a kiss on the lips.
