What Am I Doing for the Sake of Christ?

Judges 16:28

Then Samson prayed to the Lord, “O Sovereign Lord, remember me. O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.

PBS’s documentary on former President Bill Clinton is a four-hour treatment of his eight years in the White House. Unfortunately, many of those years (starting with his first campaign) were filled with scandal. Looking back on the time they served with him, many of his cabinet members and closest advisers celebrated the accomplishments but wondered what might have been accomplished without all the distractions.

Samson’s twenty years of service in the nation of Israel was yet another administration filled with distractions. From his demand to marry a Philistine woman, to their “kind of” wedding, from high stake riddles to victory poems, from great physical strength to emotional immaturity, from Delilah to the sharing of his great secret, Samson’s life was a bit of a train wreck . . . a life of “what could have been.” Finally, it all ended in the Philistine temple, when Samson, performing a strong man’s circus act, literally brought the house down.

Sad, isn’t it, when a person wastes so much potential? Hmm . . . but . . . I have the Spirit of the living God living in me. I have the resurrection power right in my person. What am I doing for the sake of Christ? How are life’s distractions keeping me from being all God wants me to be?

Father, keep me from the distractions that keep me from living full out for you. Help me understand and apply the power of your Holy Spirit. Don’t let me waste my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
