Psalm 86:8-13
Among the gods there is none like you, LORD; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, LORD; they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.

Someone has said, “If you are living you are learning.” Certainly that is true of those who follow Jesus. Growing believers are always in the process of learning. A growing believer never says, “I know that already.”

David was not a spiritual novice when he prayed, “Teach me your way, Lord….” His purpose in learning more about God was twofold. First, he wanted his trust in God to expand. He wanted to continually grow in his reliance and dependence on God. Second, he wanted a focused, “undivided” heart so that he could honor God more effectively.

A new day is a new opportunity to learn from God, the perfect Teacher. Let’s pray that prayer every morning. Let’s ask God to instruct us from His Word and the world around us. Let’s ask God everyday to expand our dependence and define our focus.

Father, please be my primary teacher today. Instruct me as I take the time to read Your word. Open my eyes to see how You are working in my world and the world at large. Help me grow in my dependence on You. Give me an undivided heart. Help me to honor Your name in everything I do. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
