Unconditional Love

Hosea 1:10

Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And in the place where it was said to them, “You are not my people,” it shall be said to them, “Children of the living God.”

God goes to great lengths to demonstrate his amazing love. He gave the prophet Hosea an unbelievable assignment. In order to explain his love for Israel, even though Israel was acting like an unfaithful wife, God had Hosea marry one…an unfaithful wife.

God told Hosea, ““Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord.” So he married Gomer….” (Hosea 1:2-3 NIV). Then after her adultery, Hosea was directed to take her back. God said, “Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods….” God wanted Hosea to express unconditional love and for the Israelites to see unconditional love firsthand.

Even though the Israelites abandoned God, he did not abandon them. He never has. He never does.  Even though they did not act like it, God assured them that they will be called, “Children of the living God.” Because of Jesus, God loves believers with that same unconditional love. Even when we wander, he will never leave us.

Talking Points

  • Thank God for his unconditional love that never fails us even when we fail God.
  • Thank God that you can be called a “child of the living God.”

Father, thank you for your amazing love! Thank you for never leaving me even when I choose to distance myself from you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We would love to hear how you have experienced God’s unconditional love – email us at prayer@ronmoore.org.
