Ezekiel 14:6

Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

Even after being disciplined for their rebellion, Israel continued to worship idols. So, God addressed the issue. He always does. God called for repentance—a turning away from their idols and their sin.

When we bow before anything other than God, we set up idols in our hearts (Eze.14:3). The heart, the center of the mind, emotion, and will, becomes divided. We internalize our idols, and they become our focus. Our hearts turn from God and turn to lust, greed, avarice, pride, self-absorption, self-promotion, jealousy, appearance.

Here’s today’s question: Do you bow before anyone or anything other than God? If so, it’s time to turn away from idols and turn toward the living God.

Talking Points

  • Ask God to reveal any idols in your life.
  • Ask him to help you turn away from them and turn toward him.

Father, examine our hearts. Show us what is inside. Give us a good look at our sin. Then, give us the strength and commitment to turn from those things that keep us from you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
