Time for the Light

Luke 11:33-36

No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.

The people in Jesus’ day watched Him perform mighty miracles. They saw the lame walk, the blind see, withered limbs restored and demons driven out. They had a front-row seat to observe the power of Jesus! And yet they continued to ask for more signs.

In response to their requests, Jesus told them that they didn’t need more phenomena. They simply needed to open their eyes to all the miracles He was performing. He wasn’t hiding His power “under a bowl.” The issue was not with the presence of light, but with the receptiveness to the light that was shining right in front of them.

How about you? You have read about and experienced the power of Jesus. You have seen Him change lives—perhaps even that of a family member or friend. Aren’t you ready for Him to change yours? I ask you to use the following prayer as your guide. Make it your own. Trust in the Light and let Jesus change the course of your life.

Dear Jesus, I know You have the power to transform my life. You have the power to change my direction. The path I am on is worn and rough. It is leading me away from You. Open my eyes and allow me to see the Light. I trust in Your work on the cross as the only way I can have a relationship with You. I desire to be changed from the inside out by Your mighty power. Change me now, I pray. In Your name. Amen.
