The Pearl of Great Value

Matthew 13:45-46

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

A merchant was looking for quality pearls. He searched container after container looking for ones that met his high standards. The merchant was a master of his trade. His mind, eyes, and fingers worked in harmony to evaluate the size, shape, color, luster, surface quality, and nacre of each pearl. Then he spotted THE ONE.

The pearl the merchant found was amazing. It was large and perfectly shaped. The color was iridescent. The luster was high and the surface was smooth. He left the containers and sold everything he had in order to buy the pearl of great value.

In God’s eyes you are the pearl of great value. He loves you so much He sent His only Son to pay the penalty for your sin. That payment was costly. Jesus died on the cross so that you could have eternal life, which is without charge—a free gift from God. How will you thank God today for His great gift?

Father, thank You for loving me so much that You sent Jesus to buy me back from slavery to sin and death. Help me respond by surrendering to You every area of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
