The Many Opportunities

Matthew 9:37-38

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

I believe that growing believers have five things going on in their lives. I call these the Five Essentials.

  • Word. Regularly reading and studying the Bible.
  • Worship. Honoring and showing reverence to God both privately and corporately.
  • Connect. Living the Christian life in community with other believers.
  • Serve. Using your gifts to honor God.
  • Share. Telling others about Jesus.

It’s the last essential—sharing—that Jesus addresses in today’s passage. The opportunities to share are plentiful. Those willing to share are few.

Every day people all around us live without Jesus. That means that they are living with a spiritual void. They are heading in the wrong direction. They are serving themselves. Ultimately, they will spend an eternity without God in a place the Bible calls “hell.” But we have the answer! We have the solution! We know the Person who can change the course of each life, give them meaning, and provide a place for us in heaven. Here’s my challenge: share Jesus with one person this week. The harvest is plentiful.

Father, bring a person into my life this week who needs You. Give me the courage to share what it means to trust in Jesus. In Christ’s name. Amen.
