The Lord is My Rock

by | Jan 19, 2022 | Daily Devotion, Names of God | 1 comment

Moses, the great servant of God, lived through some amazing experiences. As an infant, Pharaoh’s daughter rescued him from death. When Moses was forty years old, he ran for his life and spent the next forty years in a foreign land. Then God met Moses at the burning bush and chose him to lead Israel out of slavery. Through Moses, God opened the Red Sea for Israel just in time. And God gave Moses the instructions to live by on Mount Sinai. At the end of his life, he wrote a song. As Moses reflected on God’s faithfulness and protection, notice the name he gives for God.

For I will proclaim the name of the Lord; ascribe greatness to our God! “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity just and upright is he.”

 –Deuteronomy 32:3-4

A rock represents permanence, faithfulness, and endurance. Big mountainous rocks are immovable. They provide shade, protection, and shelter. When we hold on to our Rock, we will never be moved. King David describes this characteristic of God in Psalm 144:1-2 (NIV). David says, “Praise be to the Lord my Rock (Yahweh Tsuri)…. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge.”

Are you exhausted from the heat of the battle and in need of shade? Do you need protection from an enemy that continues to pursue? Do you need shelter from a storm that is pelting you with anxiety and fear? I remind you that God is Yahweh Tsuri—The Lord my Rock. You can find all you need in him.

Yahweh Tsuri,

You are my fortress. I run to you for protection. You are my stronghold. I rest in you. You are my deliverer. The enemy cannot overtake me. You are my shield. Satan’s arrows cannot touch me. You are my refuge. I find my peace in you alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Love this series on the names of God. Love that His names in the Old Testament are the same today. He never changes. Than you!
