My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
The sheep know the shepherd’s voice. It calls them home, soothes their fears, and warns them of danger. They understand the pitch, volume, and tone. So when the sheep hear the shepherd’s voice, they respond. So it is with the Good Shepherd and those who follow him.
Listen to the Good Shepherd’s voice. Through Scripture and his Spirit, he calls us to himself. It is the voice of Jesus that calms our fears, just as he stilled the raging sea. It is the voice of Jesus that gives instruction and warnings. The voice of the Good Shepherd is always direct, timely, and appropriate. We are foolish to turn a deaf ear.
Listen to the Good Shepherd’s voice. He knows you, loves you, and cares for you! He will always speak the words you need to hear, just when you need to hear them. Listen for the pitch, volume, and tone. Then, by all means, do what he says to do!
Lord Jesus, thank you for being the Good Shepherd! Thank you for your voice that speaks through all our distractions right to our heart. Give us the courage to respond when you call, when you calm, and when you warn. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
