The Good and Faithful

Matthew 25:21

His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”

In order to explain the kingdom of heaven (God’s rule in the hearts of His people), Jesus told the story of a man who entrusted his servants with different amounts of money. Two of the servants put the money to work. One servant, believing his master to be a “hard” man “dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.” When the master returned he was not pleased with the one who had buried the money. His comments to the two who were the investors are found in today’s passage.

God has given resources to all of us. We each have twenty-four hours a day. Every believer has been given at least one gift. Compared to the rest of the world we are very wealthy. Along with these gifts comes responsibility.

Everything we have belongs to God. The question that each person has to answer is this: how am I investing all that God has given me? God is not pleased with those who bury His resources in the ground.

Lord, may I be like the two servants in the story. Help me invest Your resources well and in doing so reflect Your glory. In Your name. Amen.
