Believers are commanded to explain what it means to trust in Jesus clearly, and believers are commanded to demonstrate what following Jesus looks like in real life. But no one can be coerced or forced into salvation.
Being man and sinless, Jesus was the only one who could die on man’s behalf. There was no other one and no other way. And yet we get just a hint of the pain of the cross in today’s passage.
Jesus rides into our hearts to stay. He is more intent on changing us than our circumstances.
God in the flesh surrendered himself, entering Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. He continued to yield all the way to the cross. The charge of the believer is to follow that example of humble relent.
