[expand title=”Devotion Text”]Hezekiah was a king who “did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.” He “trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel” and “held fast to the Lord.” But then, in an unguarded moment, his life took a turn.
Hezekiah became deathly ill. God graciously answered his prayer for healing and added fifteen years to his life. But when well-wishers from Babylon showed up, Hezekiah, thankful for their visit, became an open book. There was “nothing in his house or in all his realm” that he did not show them. God was not pleased and told Hezekiah that his descendants would be “eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.” Hezekiah’s response is today’s passage.
2 Kings 20:19
Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Why not, if there will be peace and security in my days?”
Stumbling at the end is a danger for everyone. Unfortunately, last impressions are indelible ones. It is not just about our lives; it’s about the legacies we leave. We thank God when things are good during our lifetimes…and…we don’t want to hinder good things for the lives of those who follow.

- Think about the end of your life today. Ask God to help you finish strong.
- Ask God to enable you to leave a worthy legacy for your children and grandchildren.
Father, keep us holding fast to you until the day you call us home. Help us not to stumble as we near the finish line. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
