Ezra 7:10

For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.

This passage is a great gift to every parent. Following Ezra’s life purpose gives us a four-part powerful prayer. Let’s use the four points of Ezra’s commitment for our talking points today.

Talking Points

  • Ezra set his heart to study God’s Word. He was devoted to doing all God called him to do. Lord, that’s what I want. A full-out following of you. Help me to be devoted to your Word.
  • Our study of God’s Word cannot be shoddy. Lord, help me take your Word seriously and study it deeply for my heart and the hearts of those under my leadership.
  • A seminary professor was fond of saying, “You cannot impart what you do not possess.” Lord, give me the focus not to miss the critical step of personal application.
  • Teaching God’s Word is a great privilege and responsibility. Lord, help me teach my children your Word. Help me own that responsibility. Help me instruct with my lips and my life.

Father, help me be in your Word so that your Word is in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
