Stuck and Stalled

[expand title=”Devotion Text”]

King Saul was stalled, stuck, and sitting under a pomegranate tree. The enemy held the high ground…so he froze with fear. Fighting men are made to fight, and Saul’s anxious waiting was making them antsy. Finally, Saul’s son, Jonathan, could delay no longer.

 1 Samuel 14:6

Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that the LORD will work for us, for nothing can hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few.”

After seeking God’s direction, Jonathan climbed up to the Philistines and, with his armor-bearer, killed twenty enemy soldiers. Then God sent panic into the whole enemy army and Israel won the battle (1 Samuel 14:15).

Living in fear causes you to sit frozen under your “pomegranate tree.” But when you stand up and move out in prayerful faith, nothing can hinder you. Talking the situation over with God, as Jonathan did, allows you to watch God work in your life.  Or…you can just stay frozen under the pomegranate tree.

Talking Points

  • Ask God to free you from the fear that causes frozenness.
  • Ask God to do the same for your children. Ask God to protect them from the fearful and unproductive life of sitting under their own pomegranate tree.

Father, don’t let us sit frozen under our “pomegranate tree” of fear. Help us move forward with the confidence that nothing, absolutely nothing, can hinder us from accomplishing your will in our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
