Strength for the Weary Soul

Psalm 119:25-32
ד Daleth

I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word. I gave an account of my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees. Cause me to understand the way of your precepts, that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds. My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me and teach me your law. I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, LORD; do not let me be put to shame. I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding.

Sorrow. It comes in many forms. The loss of health. The loss of a loved one. The death of a dream. Like a professional boxer it hits hard then backs away only to strike again and again. It wears out body and soul.

There is one place to go for strength, a place that is living and active. A place where you can feel the inspired breath of God. A place of comfort. Peace. Reassurance. Security. Encouragement.

In times of sorrow open God’s word. Not to study but to soak in His promises. Find a verse of comfort that washes over your soul and provides refreshment. Meditate on a passage that strengthens you deep within. When your soul is weary with sorrow, find strength in God’s word.

Father, help me open Your Word when I feel too weak, when sorrow has worn me down. Help me find an oasis of refreshment and strength. Give me encouragement through Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
