Standing Firm in Unshakable Faith: Calming the Storm

Followers of Jesus are not immune to disappointment, discouragement, or fear. Unanswered questions rattle around in our minds. There are challenges, for sure, but we know that every believer is empowered by the Spirit. The Spirit of God, who lives within us, speaks to our hearts. He reminds us that our battle is a spiritual one. He confirms that God has not forsaken us. He brings a deep peace. The Spirit calls to mind that even in the chaos of the storm, the same God who loves us so much that he sent his Son to die for our sins is in control. He delivers spiritual discernment.

1 Corinthians 2:14
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

Songwriter and singer Scott Krippayne recorded a powerful song that speaks to the truth of our passage today. The refrain goes like this:

Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered peace be still
He can settle any sea
But it doesn’t mean He will
Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm
And other times He calms His child

Father, if you choose not to calm our storms, please calm our hearts. In Christ’s name. Amen.

All your Devos are excellent Pastor Ron. This one is especially good. I know some Christians who focus on the ungodly culture that surrounds us and they become quite agitated. I tell them keep your eyes on the Author, and Finisher of our Faith and His Word, and know that He is sovereign over ALL things, even if it doesn’t seem so to our finite minds.
    Thank you for your Devos.
