Proverbs 18:10
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

At a strategic point in every city stood a tower—important in many ways. For starters, the armor was stored there. When the calls of an enemy approach sounded, the soldiers ran to the tower to strap on their battle gear and secure their weapons. The tower was strategically located by the front gate. The enemy could not, under any circumstance, penetrate the city. 

The tower was also built as a safe place. It was constructed of heavy solid stones, placed two or three layers deep. The tower was strong and substantial—fortified within and without. So, when the call of an enemy approaching sent the soldiers to secure their armor and weapons, that same call sent the women and children racing into the tower for safety and security. 

The name of the Lord describes his person, character, and works. God—all he is and all he does—is a strong tower. We run to him, embrace him, and cling to him. He provides safety and security. Like a child hanging on to his father, we cling to him, and he upholds us with his powerful right hand (Ps. 63:8).

Father, I am afraid…I run to you. Keep me safe. I am weak…I run to you. Make me strong. I have fallen…I crawl to you. Lift me up. I have sinned…I fall on you. Cleanse me. I am anxious…I cling to you. Uphold me. I am confused…I come to you. Clear my mind. I am in pain…I wait for you. Heal my body and soul. You are my strong tower. I run to you. Keep me safe. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
