Road Rules: The Lord, the Maker

by | Aug 18, 2022 | Daily Devotion, Road Rules | 0 comments

The journey of life places each person on a different path. Some live and die in the slums of Nairobi; others strike it rich in the slots of Nevada. Some live the rich and famous lifestyle, flying their private jets from one exotic location to the next. Not long ago, I read about the former NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal. His monthly expenses are almost $900,000. This includes $12,775 for food, $23,950 for clothes, and $468,345 on three mortgages!

But regardless of our net worth, this one thing is true for all: Today’s proverb reminds us that “the Lord is the Maker of [us] all.”

Proverbs 22:2
The rich and the poor meet together; the Lord is the Maker of them all.

One day we will stand before him to give an account. In the end, only one thing will matter for the rich and the poor. The issue will be where each one of us stands with Jesus.

Whether rich or poor, we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. Whether rich or poor, we all need a Savior. Whether rich or poor, the question is, “Have you trusted in Christ alone to forgive your sins and place you in a relationship with the living God?” It’s a “yes” or “no” question for both the rich and the poor.

Father, remind us that we are in need of a Savior—whether rich or poor. Give us the courage to share the Good News with every person you put in our paths.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
