Ezekiel 37:11-14

Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD. ‘”

The people of Israel expressed their feelings of utter despair, “Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.” They had lost all sense of spiritual life. Their relationship with God felt like nothing more than dry bones. Their confidence and courage were long gone. They saw themselves as cut off and abandoned.

Maybe you can relate. Bones dried up? Hope gone? Cut off? Like Israel, you are living in the exile of self-inflicted pain. The path you cut has led to a dead end. The hope of restoration seems impossible. Your spiritual GPS has run out of power and is showing a blank screen.

I have great news for you! The God, who resurrects dry bones, resuscitates lost hope, and recaptures the abandoned, stands before you with open arms. Feel His embrace and get ready to live again. Thank God for His power to open spiritual graves and breathe life back into the soul. Thank God for His grace to forgive and mercy to restore. Thank God for His willingness to help you leave your past behind and build you a new future. Nothing is impossible with Him.

Father, thank You for meeting me in my sin, despair, and hopelessness. Thank You for making my dry bones rattle back to life. Thank You for forgiveness and restoration. Help me live out my thanks. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
