Psalm 19:7-11

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

There is no substitute for reading the Word of God. None! That’s why we need to read fewer books about the Bible and spend more time reading the Bible. Interaction with God’s perfect and trustworthy Word needs to happen on a daily basis. Here are the benefits:

  • God’s Word rejuvenates the soul.
  • God’s Word provides wisdom and discernment.
  • God’s Word brings joy to the heart.
  • God’s Word gives enlightenment.
  • God’s Word builds stability.
  • God’s Word is more precious than gold.
  • God’s Word is sweeter than honey.
  • God’s Word warns us of sin.

We can easily rationalize our sin but that is much harder when we are actively reading God’s Word. The Bible is God’s love letter to you. You will miss his great compassion and his perfect will when you neglect to crack open the pages.

Talking Point

Father, forgive my hidden faults. Keep me from willful sin. Please don’t let my propensity to sin rule over me. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight. Thank you for being my Rock and my Redeemer. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
