Deuteronomy 8:2

And you shall remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

Reflection. An exercise that takes time to think, ponder, and seek insight. When we reflect from the past to the present, we have the luxury of evaluating how the past events formed us. We begin to understand how last year’s, month’s, or week’s events changed us and how God was at work.

God often told his people to remember. Israel was to contemplate how God had led them, the challenges they had faced, and the blessings they had received. Their remembering allowed them to see how God had humbled them and tested them. Every challenge was purposed to show what was in their heart and to confirm (or not) their obedience. Today let’s take time to remember.

Talking Points

  • Think back over the last months. Note the things you’ve been through. Ask God to bring to mind how you responded. Reflect on the changes that God brought about in your life.
  • Share what you learned with your spouse and your children. Let them see that God never wastes our time. Whatever took place yesterday was God’s preparation for today.

Father, help me take time to reflect. Settle my heart and remind me of your work over the last months. Show me how you have changed and grown me. Or show me where I failed the test. Thank you for loving me so much that you desire growth and change in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

And keep reflecting on God’s goodness throughout the day.
