Real Strength

Zechariah 12:5

Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the LORD Almighty is their God.’

What makes a person strong? Is it the environment – something in their family that developed strength in their heart? Is it from their background – classes in the school of hard knocks? Maybe it’s in their DNA – they were born with an inner strength that has matured.

Or . . . maybe human strength is way overrated. It always falls short. It can’t keep marriages together. It cannot keep fear away. It can’t shield against illness. The strongest can never climb the heights to God. At the end of the day, the strongest in mind, emotions, and body cannot conquer death.

Real strength comes from only one place. We can be strong only because the LORD Almighty is our God. His strong arm is never too short to help us. He can mend broken relationships. He provides a peace that is beyond our circumstances and understanding. He will carry us through the most difficult time. And one day, He will carry us from death to eternal life. Real strength comes from God alone.

Father, I am weak, fearful, and helpless. Thank You for the strength that carries me through this life and into eternity. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
