Real Strength

Zechariah 12:5

Then the clans of Judah shall say to themselves, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the Lord of hosts, their God.’

What makes a person strong? Some strands of DNA deep within? Something in their genealogy that wove strength into their heart? Experience in the school of hard knocks?

Or…maybe human strength is way overrated. It always falls short. It can’t keep fear away. It can’t keep marriages together. It can’t shield against illness. The strongest among us can never climb the heights to God. At the end of the day, the strongest in mind, emotions, and body cannot conquer death.

Real strength comes from only one place. We can be strong only because the Lord Almighty—the Lord of hosts—is our Father. His strong arm is never too short to help us. He can mend broken relationships. He provides peace that is beyond our circumstances and understanding. He will carry us through the most difficult times. And one day, he will carry us from death to eternal life. Real strength can only be found in the Lord of hosts, our God.

Talking Points

  • Ask God to show you where you search for strength.
  • Ask him to help you find everything you need in him alone.

Father, I am weak, fearful, and helpless. Thank you for your strength that carries me through this life and into eternity. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
