Promised

Psalm 89:30-37
“If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness—and I will not lie to David—that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.”

God promised to preserve the ancestry of David and one day send His Son through that royal line. However many kings who came after David challenged God’s great grace and promise.

Solomon’s divided heart led to a divided kingdom. After David’s son, the nation split in two—Israel in the north and Judah in the south. David’s line was preserved through the tribe of Judah until the birth of Jesus in a Bethlehem stable. The kingdom of Jesus will never end.

God’s preservation of David’s line is a tremendous demonstration of His sovereign power and commitment to His Word. God swore by His holiness that David’s line would continue forever. He will not and cannot lie. Like the sun’s ruling of the day and the moon’s presence every night, so God will remain faithful to all He has promised.

Father, thank You for Your promises and for keeping every one of them down to the smallest detail. Thank You for Your faithfulness. I know that You will keep all of Your promises to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
