Prince of Peace

by | Feb 6, 2022 | Daily Devotion, Names of God | 0 comments

We live in a world of chaos. The news reports tell us that there is trouble all around us. Our hearts proclaim the tension within us. We long for peace. Seven hundred years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah told us that the Messiah was coming. He wrote:

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

-Isaiah 9:6

The Hebrew word for peace is shalom. It means more than a sense of inner calmness. Shalom conveys the idea of wholeness and completeness. To enjoy shalom is to have health, satisfaction, success, safety, and prosperity.[1] Jesus is the Prince of Peace, the Sar Shalom.

Today your battles can end. Through Sar Shalom, you can have peace with God (Romans 5:1). Through trusting in Sar Shalom, you can live in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). There is no need to let anxiety take you captive. Tell Sar Shalom all that is causing your worry. The peace of Sar Shalom, “which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds….” (Philippians 4:7).

Father,

Thank you for Jesus, my Prince of Peace!

In his name I pray. Amen.
