PRAYER: Talking with my Father

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Struggling with temptation? Here are three truths you need to know.

1. No temptation is unique to you. The person who feels they are the only one on earth who has ever faced a particular temptation often gives that as an excuse to give in. Don’t flatter yourself. Others have stood in those same tempting shoes and stood firm.

2. No temptation can overpower you. God will not let you be tempted to the point that you must give in. If you give in, you own it.

3. Every temptation comes with an escape route. God promises to provide you with strength and an exit.

So, here’s the deal. Temptation is real, persuasive, and alluring; otherwise, it wouldn’t be called temptation. But you do not have to cross the line. If you choose to take that step, you do so because you want to, not because you have to. And if you choose to cross the line, be warned: What you sow, you will also reap (Galatians 6:7–8).

Father, someone reading this today is experiencing temptation. They have convinced themselves that their temptation is unique. They are getting ready to cross the line. Speak to them through your Word. Stop them in their tracks. Open their eyes to see the way out that you always provide. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
