Practice What You Preach

Matthew 23:1

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.”

We all know of people who talk a big game, pray big prayers, and make big promises. But when it’s all said and done there is more said than done! They are all talk and no action. Like the religious leaders in Jesus’ day, they do not practice what they preach.

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees did not lack a message. They were caretakers of the Old Testament law and were responsible for teaching it to the people. Jesus said, “So you must be careful to do everything they tell you.” God’s Word must be obeyed. However, Jesus warned not to mimic the religious leaders’ actions. They do not practice what they preach.

Any disconnect between our words and actions discredit both. We must be those who know the truth, communicate the truth, and put the truth into action. We must back up our words with action. You must practice what you preach.

Father, don’t let me have a hint of the religious leaders in my life. Help me practice what I preach. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Send your prayer requests to prayer@ronmoore.org. We’d love to pray for you.
