Micah 5:2, 4-5a

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times . . . He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And he will be our peace.

Seven hundred years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Micah told about His coming. Micah was clear about the place of His birth and the clan from which He would come. Micah also pointed out the eternality of Jesus; His beginnings were before His birth. The Messiah would come to shepherd His people. He would lead with strength and majesty. Jesus “will be our peace.”

The apostle Paul says that no man stands righteous before God. All have turned away from Him, and, in fact, no one seeks after Him. People do not fear God. “…the way of peace they do not know” (Romans 3:17). But Jesus comes to change all that. It is through Jesus alone that we can finally have peace with God.

Do you have that peace? Have you trusted in Christ as the only way you can know God and finally enter into a relationship with Him? Are you certain that you are at peace with God for eternity? If not, I invite you to pray this prayer.

Dear heavenly Father, I know that I am a sinner and am separated from You because of my sin. I know that I cannot earn my way to You or somehow be good enough for You. I know that I don’t have peace with You. But I want to. Right now I trust in Jesus as the only way I can have that peace I long for. I trust in Jesus as the only way I can have a relationship with You. I am sorry for my sin. I long for Your forgiveness. I long for peace with You through Jesus. I pray in His name. Amen.
