Job 19:25-27

I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes — I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

Today’s passage is one of, if not the most, powerful profession of the hope found in Scripture. Let’s break down Job’s proclamation.

I know that my redeemer lives. Everything precious to Job was gone. His life was ebbing away. Yet Job clung to the knowledge of God’s existence and care.

And in the end, he will stand on the earth. When it was all said and done, Job knew that God would be victorious.

And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh, I will see God. Job was confident that he would see God after his death. Job was certain of a resurrected body.

How my heart yearns within me! Job had transitioned from clinging to life to yearning for heaven.

This passage gives tremendous encouragement to us in facing death. Our Redeemer lives! We have confidence that He will deliver us safely home.

Father, thank you for the certainty of eternal life. Remind us often that death is simply a transition to eternal life. Help our hearts to yearn for heaven. In Jesus name. Amen.
