1 Samuel 17:33

And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth.”

Saul sold David short when it came to fighting against Goliath. “You are but a youth” was meant to be an assessment of David’s ability. In essence, Saul was making the case that David was not big enough, strong enough, or experienced enough. Saul wanted the men to handle the situation. But that was the problem. Every time Goliath took a small step toward them, they took a giant leap back. So, God chose to work through a boy to demonstrate his mighty power.

Never sell children short. They introduce parents and grandparents to Jesus. Children readily share about their faith and show friends what trusting in Jesus looks like in real life. They lead the way in faith-stretching endeavors such as going on mission trips.

God does big work in small packages. Let’s pray for our children and pray that we will demonstrate the same passion to follow hard after Jesus.

Talking Points

  • Ask God to use your children to be an influencer for him in their network of friends.
  • Ask God to stretch your faith so you will set an example for your children. Remember—speed of the leader, speed of the team.

Father, please develop my children as spiritual leaders and develop me so I can show them how to lead. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Keep praying for your children throughout the day.
