Once for All

John 6:35

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”

Everybody loves a miracle, especially if it involves food. Stuffed from the miracle meal of bread and fish, the crowd of five thousand found everything they wanted in Jesus. They intended to make Him “king by force.” So Jesus withdrew alone and went to another city.

When the crowd caught up with Jesus, they made their intentions known. “Sir,” they said, “from now on give us this bread.” This group knew a good deal when they saw it—a great teacher who could keep them in rapt attention and then provide an outdoor all-you-can-eat buffet. We like it when Jesus meets all our wants, don’t we?

Don’t mistake temporary satisfaction with eternal fulfillment. Physical hunger will always return when you eat from the world’s banquet table. Spiritual hunger can be satisfied only with Jesus, the Bread of Life. Anything else will leave you wanting.

Father, I admit that the world’s offerings are intriguing and inviting. And I confess they leave me wanting. Don’t let me seek to satisfy my soul with temporal stuff. I trust in You for eternal fulfillment through Jesus. I pray in His name. Amen.

Are you seeking temporary satisfaction from the stuff the world offers? Let us pray for you. Email your requests to prayer@ronmoore.org.
