No One Like God

2 Chronicles 6:13-14

He stood on the platform and then knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven. He said: “LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth–you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.”

Solomon is on his knees – a posture of humility – with his hands reaching up toward God. After twenty years of construction, the temple is completed. Our passage today includes the first words of Solomon’s prayer of dedication where he focuses on two attributes of God.

Uniqueness: Make a careful search over all the earth. If possible, take a fact-finding trip through the heavens. You know what you would find? Nothing that is even close to our God. The eternal, omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient God is unique. There is no one like Him.

Faithfulness: Our God is a covenant-keeping God. His “gifts and his call are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29). When we belong to Him, nothing “in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39).

There is no one like our covenant-keeping God. Only one response is merited – kneel down, lift your hands to the heavens and praise Him for His love and work in your life.

Father, I acknowledge that You alone are God; there is no one like You. All the gods of the nations are idols, but You made the heavens. Thank You for opening my eyes and heart to see my sin and need for a Savior. Thank You for introducing me to Jesus. Thank You that nothing can separate me from Your love because of Christ Jesus my Lord. [Keep thanking God for His work in your life.]
