Never Changing

Numbers 23:19

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

The process of maturation changes us—physically, intellectually, and emotionally. Things we held to passionately at one point in our lives are altered or jettisoned altogether. But God never changes. A. W. Tozer says, “All that God is he has always been, and all that he has been and is he will ever be . . . In God no change is possible; in men change is impossible to escape.”[1]

What truth do we learn from God’s immutable nature? God will never lie to us or twist his word. What he says he will do. What he promises he will fulfill. God is the Rock that never settles or shifts. He is “the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

Talking Points

Thank God for never changing. Thank God that you can always depend on him to do everything he has promised to do.

  • Ask God to give you the opportunity to teach this truth to your children today. People will disappoint them. God never will.

Father, thank you for never changing! Thank you for never changing your mind! Thank you for doing what you say you will do! Thank you for the constancy of your love and grace even when I fail to follow your instruction. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
