Love Your Enemies

Matthew 5:43-45

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

Are there people you avoid? You see them walking down the hall and you walk the other way? When their name comes up, your emotions stir? When they prosper you are angry? When they fall you are delighted? How do you respond to your “enemies”?

Jesus said that anyone can love their friends and hate their enemies. Even the godless pagans do that much. But only those who know Jesus and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit can do the unnatural—love their enemies and pray for their persecutors.

How about you? Are you ready for a breakthrough? Are you ready to speak to the person whose past words sent you reeling? Are you ready to pray for the one whose actions hurt you? This is supernatural and can be accomplished only by the power of God! Are you ready to see him at work…through you?

Talking to God

Father, I don’t want to love my enemies. I don’t want to pray for my persecutors. Give me the supernatural power to do what my natural self doesn’t want to do. Allow me to see you at work in my life. Allow me to experience your amazing power and share your amazing grace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
