Light cuts the Darkness

The power went out at about 10:30 PM. Lori and I were right in the middle of watching a movie. The movie was one someone had loaned to us and said we needed to watch it. To be honest, we didn’t mind missing the rest of the movie! But we did mind the darkness and cold. Our thirty hours without power made it feel like we were back in the pioneer days, out on the prairie living by candlelight and warming up by the fireplace. We own about ten flashlights, but only one worked, and it was a needed companion. Light cuts through the darkness.

Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” In a world rendered pitch-black by sin, believers cut through the dark and demonstrate what it looks like when the Spirit of the living God occupies the human heart. We have the great privilege and awesome responsibility to light the path that leads to the cross.

Here’s the cool thing. When we live a truly Spirit-transformed life, people see how we do singleness, marriage, parenting, and business…they see how we do life…and God receives the glory.

Father,
May we always shine your light in the darkest places. Help us live in such a way that you get the praise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
