Challenging and Stretching Times

2 Peter 1:4
…By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desires.

As I write this, God has placed me in a challenging and stretching time. I have done a good bit of reflecting on “his precious and very great promises.” In fact, I have written several of God’s promises on 3 x 5 cards to review them often. There is no middle ground to a promise.

God alone is my rock and my salvation (Psalm 62:2). The Lord will fight for me (Exodus 14:14). The arm of the Lord is not too short to save (Isaiah 59:1). God takes hold of my right hand and says, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you” (Isaiah 41:13). God will never leave me nor forsake me (Deuteronomy 31:8). All God’s promises are either true or they are not. There is no middle ground.

So, here’s the deal. Do you really believe that God’s promises are true? Belief is more than lip service. You must put God’s “precious and very great promises” into action. Then you can truly experience the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit and “[escape] from the corruption…because of sinful desires.”

Lord, help me believe and apply your “precious and very great promises.” Move them from my head to my heart. Change them from an intellectual assent to spiritual passion. Give me the courage to step out on your promises and live a life of trust. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
