Certain Hope

by | Apr 18, 2023 | Daily Devotion, Living Hope | 1 comment

Today I got word that a friend’s wife passed away from surgery complications. It was so sudden and so unexpected for this young family. Words can’t express the devastation and grief. And through our tears, we anchor our hearts in the certain hope we have in Jesus. This confidence within every true believer is confirmed day by day as we read the Bible. Our confidence is built on the imperishable Word that “remains forever” (1 Peter 1:25).

1 Peter 1:10-11
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.

The prophets of old spoke of a future grace and took pains to understand and reveal how and when that grace would come about. The Spirit inspired them to write time and again that the coming Grace-Giver would suffer before “the subsequent glories.”

Take time today to read Isaiah 52:13-53:12. Here, the prophet Isaiah, directed by the “Spirit of Christ,” writes about the sufferings and the subsequent glories that Jesus would experience. Remember, the recipients of Peter’s letter were facing persecution and needed the confidence to stand firm. We need that same confidence to stand firm in obedience today.

Father, thank you for your Spirit-inspired Word that speaks to the issues of our lives and gives us the confidence to stand firm in obedience. May we be readers and doers of it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
