Light in the Darkness: Shine!

by | Dec 29, 2023 | Daily Devotion, Light in the Darkness | 0 comments

Isn’t a Christian supposed to be “aw shucks” humble? Aren’t believers meant to hide in a corner and not let the right hand know what the left hand is doing? Aren’t believers expected to refrain from showing off? Not according to Jesus.

Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus said that those who follow him are to let their lights shine. We are to let our lights shine for all to see! We are to live in such a way that the praise for our actions is not absorbed but reflected to our heavenly Father.

True humility is not hiding; it’s obeying. Real humility is doing singleness, relationships, marriage, parenting, work…life…in such a way that God gets all the credit. The dark world can’t help but see you. Remember, you are the light of the world, so shine…for goodness sake… shine! And make sure God receives all the glory. Be the light! Shine bright!

Father, thank you for the privilege of being your light in a dark world. Help us shine for you in every area of our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

As we wrap up another year, I want to thank you for engaging in God’s Word with me every day. It is a privilege to have this time with you.  On January 1, we will begin a 31-day devotional series called Standing Firm in Unshakable Faith. With everything going on in our world, we want to stand firm in the confidence we have because of Jesus. Invite a friend or someone in your family to join us so we can stand firm together.
