Psalm 77:16-20

The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Your night may be dark and your songs may be few, but God is not finished with you! His ways—beyond our understanding—are to give us a future that honors Him and displays His power.

Asaph began this psalm with desperate cries. Then he reviewed God’s work. The waters of the Red Sea “saw you and writhed.” They were opened to allow a people in a desperate situation find safety on the other side. God opened up a path through the mighty waters and He is still leading His people to places of safety today.

God is not finished with you! He has worked in your past. He is at work in your present. He will be at your side in the future. He will always come to your rescue. He is the God who saves.

Father, the night is dark. I trust in the Light of the World. I am going under. I trust in the One who saves. My cries are desperate. I trust in the One who hears and answers. I will wait on You to lead me and I look forward to singing songs of praise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
