Illuminate. Expose. Reveal.

John 8:12

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Darkness describes a heavy, black density that hides a person’s path. It stops progress, leaving a person paralyzed. The drape of darkness halts motion. Light illuminates. It makes the path clear. Brightness allows movement.

Jesus is the light of the world. He reveals the way to God.

Darkness is a cosmic cover-up. It hides God’s creation and purpose. It keeps people in ignorance and fear. Light exposes. It enables a person to see clearly whatever is around. It gives understanding and wisdom.

Jesus is the light of the world. He exposes error with the truth.

Darkness confuses. It hides each path. It conceals each crossway. Direction is meaningless in darkness. Light explains. It makes the way certain. It reveals the path. It allows a person to make decisions regarding direction.

Jesus is the light of the world. He is the only way to have a relationship with the living God.

Father, thank You for sending Jesus—the light of the world—to expel the darkness and reveal the way to eternal life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
