Isaiah 6:1-3

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Can you imagine seeing the things that Isaiah described in this passage? The great prophet saw the Lord! He was seated on His throne as King over all. He was high and exalted in position over all the nations. His long robe filled the temple as a sign of His royalty and majesty.

Above the Lord were angelic six-winged beings. In humility, the angelic beings used two wings to cover their faces as they hovered before God. With two wings, they covered their feet, and with two wings they flew in continuous activity. As they flew, they called out to one another, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” Isaiah’s response to such a vision was to cry out, “Woe to me! I am ruined!”

We thank God that He is our heavenly Father. We can approach Him with the endearing “Abba, Father.” Jesus, our Savior, calls us His friend. While our relationship is an intimate one, He is still the omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, eternal Creator. Thank God that we can have a personal relationship with Him. But let’s not forget that He is holy and the “whole earth is full of his glory!” When we, like Isaiah, get a real picture of who God is, we can only fall on our knees and worship Him.

Father, forgive us for taking Your greatness for granted. Help us to be those who live in awe of Your Person and actions. As we draw near to You as our Father, may we never forget that You are holy, holy, holy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
