Genesis 14:19-20

And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!”

After Abraham rescued his nephew, Lot, he met Melchizadek, the priest of El-Elyon, God Most High. El-Elyon means, “Highest” or “Exalted One.” The name describes

God’s sovereignty and supremacy. He is the “possessor of heaven and earth” and supreme over all our enemies. In the New Testament Jesus is called the “Son of the Most High.” The Holy Spirit is called “the power of the Most High.” And true believers are called “servants of the Most High.”

A child of God does not have to live a hand-wringing life filled with fear and anxiety. Our Father is one whose power cannot be matched. He is in control of all things. Nothing catches him off guard or takes him by surprise. You can trust him with your life, along with all your issues and concerns. He gave Abraham victory over his enemies. He can handle your challenges as well. Nothing is too hard for El-Elyon.

Talking Points

• Thank God for who he is. There is no one like him; he is supreme over all. He is in control of all things; he is sovereign over all. Tell God you trust him with all the challenges of your day.
• Ask God for a special teaching moment with your children or grandchildren today, where you can tell them in an age-appropriate way about the God Most High.

And…keep talking to God throughout the day.
