Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

Moses was dead. The great leader Joshua had followed from youth was now gone. The difficult assignment of leading Israel into the promised land sat on Joshua’s shoulders like a heavy weight.

Maybe God has given you a difficult assignment. Illness, grief, loss, and anxiety weighs heavy on your heart. It’s a load that never leaves. The mission is yours to carry out and you feel alone, even when surrounded by people.

God’s promise to Joshua is yours as well. You are not alone; God is with you. The weight may be heavy, but God will carry it for you. Don’t be afraid. Be strong and courageous. God is on your side. He’s got your back.

Talking Points

  • Tell God all about the heavy weight you are carrying. Unload your heart—the loneliness, fear, dread.
  • Ask God to allow you to experience his presence. Ask him for strength and courage. Ask God to give you a tangible time today when you experience your heavy burden lifted.

Lord, I can’t carry this alone. I am stumbling under the weight. I need your strength and courage. Thank you for the power of your presence. Right now, I am giving my burden to you. When I take it back, remind me that you want to carry it for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
