Fresh Start: Completion

Following the death of her infant daughter and husband, Sarah Winchester was crippled by grief. She tried to ease the heartache by building a house. Money was not an issue for the widow of the gun magnate, William Winchester. Each morning, she sat down with her architect to explain what she wanted done that day. Those meetings continued for almost four decades. Winchester built a seven-story mansion with 160 rooms. There were stairs that led to ceilings or solid walls, doors that opened to steep drops, windows that opened to other rooms, and skylights placed in between floors. She continuously built her unconventional house for thirty-eight years.

Believers are continuously under construction as well, but our Builder and Architect knows exactly what he is doing. The Master Builder is making us into the person he wants us to be. And Paul says,

Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

God is working today to bring it all to completion when Jesus comes again or the Father takes us to himself. Right now, he keeps building.

All believers should wear a t-shirt that says, “Under Construction.” We are unfinished projects. God started a good work in us, but he’s not finished. He will “bring it to completion.” It will be finished with our last breath.

The fear of insignificance settles in our hearts when we forget we are a work in progress. During this life, we’ll have our share of spiritual trips and falls. We’ll take three spiritual steps forward, then two back. We will disappoint others and ourselves.

But significance is nourished when I remember who I am and Whose I am.  I am a child of God and will be forever! I know that God is the One who started his spiritual work in my life. And I know that he will never leave any project unfinished. I am confident that God, who began this work in me, will deliver me complete because of the finished work of Jesus. My significance is in Jesus. Any other person will leave me incomplete.

Lord Jesus, thank you for your finished work of salvation. Thank you for starting that work in me. And thank you for the certain promise that one day it will be completed when I meet you face to face. Amen.
