Psalm 144:5-11

Part your heavens, LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke. Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy; shoot your arrows and rout them. Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. I will sing a new song to you, my God; on the ten- stringed lyre I will make music to you, to the One who gives victory to kings, who delivers his servant David. From the deadly sword deliver me; rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.

It’s time to get out of the rut. It’s time to stop singing the same old song, praying the same worn out prayer, falling into the same ugly sin. Yesterday is in the past. Its challenges are over—won some, lost some. Today is a new day. It is time to sing a new song!

David was a songwriter and well prepared to make music to God. With his ten-stringed lyre he composed beautiful songs to the One who gave the victory and delivered His servant. God rescued David from nature, warriors, and even those “whose mouths are full of lies.” From the heat of the desert to the mouth of the deceitful, God always comes through.

Are you ready for a new song? Ready for something fresh, new and bold? Listen to new music. Read a fresh portion of Scripture. Serve in a new area of ministry. Share the Gospel with a friend. Go someplace where you can sing at the top of your lungs.  Get out of your rut! Sing a new song!

Father, forgive me for being stuck. Help me get unstuck. Put a new song in my heart that is fresh and bold. Let me sing it like I have never sung before. Stretch me to worship You with renewed joy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
