[expand title=”Devotion Text”]Have you ever stood alone? Rejected? In danger of losing everything important to you? That’s what happened to David after sixteen months of living in the city of Ziklag.
Tired of running from Saul and doubting God’s promises, David moved into the land of the Philistines—Israel’s sworn enemy. There, in Ziklag, David lived a double life of lies and cover-up. One day when David and his men returned from battle, they found their houses destroyed and their families captured by the Amalekites. The distraught soldiers turned on David.
1 Samuel 30:6
And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.
David stood alone, grieving the loss of his family and fearing for his life. He had only one place to turn. And there he strengthened himself in the Lord his God. David learned—when God is all you have, God is all you need.
Talking Points
- Father, today I pray for the person who is alone—maybe from their own actions. I ask that you help them turn to you and find strength and help.
- I pray for those living in their own Ziklag—enemy territory far from you. Bring them to a place where you are all they have so they can come back home.
