Finding, Losing. Losing, Finding.

Matthew 10:37-39

Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.

Following Jesus is not a matter of convenience.

We sign up for sacrifice.

We don’t work Jesus into our schedules.

Love for Jesus trumps love for everything else.

Following Jesus is not a matter of convenience.

We are to take up our cross.

We are to carry it wherever God calls.

We proclaim Christ’s rule over our lives.

Following Jesus is not a matter of convenience.

“I,” “me,” and “mine” are not part of the deal.

Temporal gains result in an eternal loss.

Temporal sacrifices result in an eternal win.

Father, on my own I am selfish and me-focused. Remind me often of today’s passage. Help me give up the temporal lure to grasp an eternal gain. Don’t let me pursue the attractions of the world and miss the deep blessings of life with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
