Faithful and True Witness

Revelation 3:14

“And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation.’”

In John’s vision of the things to come, the apostle saw heaven opened and a white horse standing before him. John said that the rider of the horse was called “Faithful and True.” John noted that his eyes were like blazing fire, and many crowns were on his head. The armies of heaven were following him.

The rider on the horse that John saw was Jesus, the faithful and true witness. In his gospel, John described Jesus as the One who came from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14). He is the One who came to show us the Father. All that Jesus said and did was grounded in fact, in certainty. Even the religious leaders admitted that Jesus taught the “way of God in accordance with the truth” (Mark 12:14 NIV). Moses gave the law, but grace and truth came through Jesus (John 1:17).

When we place our faith in Jesus, there is no risk. Jesus is who he says he is. Everything Jesus says is true. What Jesus promises will always come to be. He is the faithful and true witness.

Lord Jesus,

Thank you for the certainty of your person and your promises.

In your name, I pray. Amen.
