Most people live for the stuff. Not always bad stuff, but stuff nonetheless. The career. The home. The school. The activities for the kids. The social group. The retirement plan. The weekend activities. The getaways. All the right stuff … just in the wrong order. When we live for stuff, at the end of the day, that’s exactly what we have—a bunch of stuff. Jesus says to flip the order.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Jesus tells us to focus first on spiritual things. Seek the things of the kingdom—loving God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength, and loving your neighbor as yourself. Determine to live in obedience. Then, with your spiritual head screwed on straight, God will give you the things you need.

It’s simple—put God first. He’ll take care of the rest.

Father, as we seek you first today, give the needed evidence that you really will take care of the other stuff. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
